Young Heart, Big Mission: 11 Year Old Anmol Kaur

by Presha Khandpur (Melbourne | May 2025)

In a touching display of creativity and community spirit, 11 year old Anmol Kaur has taken it upon herself to help support AtamRas Kirtan Darbar 2025. What began with her love for arts and crafts—creating handmade cards for her friends birthdays —slowly blossomed into curating stunning mini succulents and cards to raise funds for AtamRas. Anmol expresses her love for craft paired with what the “Gurdwara teaches us all ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰੋ, ਵੰਡ ਛਕੋ,ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, that I also wanted to give back to the community”. Making “different cards for different occasions”, Anmol carefully handicrafts custom designs dependent on each customer’s unique requests, leaving customers with nothing less than a smile on their face. Moving at a speedy pace to create such beautiful pieces of art, Anmol lets us know her custom orders take her about 30 minutes with her fastest being in a mere 10 minutes! So what inspires the designs she comes up with? “I (Anmol) take inspiration from what’s around me, nature, as well as taking inspiration from online and adding my own personal touch”.

AtamRas Kirtan Darbar is fast approaching, promising to be an event unlike anything Australia has seen before. Featuring renowned raagis from around the world and engaging activities for all ages, AtamRas is expected to attract over 8,000 attendees globally. AtamRas is truly by the sangat, for the sangat. Anmol, who has a deep love for kirtan, recently earned first place in the under-13 category of the Gurmat Sangeet Competition in charol singing—a remarkable achievement at a national level. So, it comes as no surprise that when asked what she was most excited for at AtamRas, her answer was clear,  listening to and enjoying the powerful kirtan performed by talented raagis from across the globe. She has also won First Prize in Bhalo Bhalo Re Kirtaniya International competition.

Managing orders can become hectic and exhausting for anyone hand creating such pieces, let alone an 11 year old superstar.”My family helps me alot,” she says “They support me by giving me the time and space to work, even when I make a big mess!” she further adds. Anmol also made it a point to express her utmost gratitude to ‘Bunny Uncleji’ who was “the very first person to place a big order of 100 cards which really motivated me to keep going and inspired me to make more”.

Anmol has further expanded her crafty skills and recently started creating small succulents to sell too. When asked about her future endeavours, she hopes to move onto new crafts such as bookmarks and bracelets.

Anmol’s efforts are not just about fundraising but they instead reflect the Sikh spirit of sewa, creativity, and community. With each card and succulent, she’s spreading joy, awareness, and a little bit of her own love for Sikhi. As AtamRas event draws near, Anmol has set her sights on raising $1,000,and every card, succulent, or kind word of support brings her one step closer.

Let’s rally behind her beautiful mission and help her reach her goal.

From Anmol’s Parents:
“As parents, we are incredibly grateful to the sangat for recognising our daughter’s efforts. Watching her channel her creativity into seva has been a humbling and uplifting experience for our entire family. Her involvement in supporting the Atam Ras event has deepened her understanding of Gurmat values and the spirit of giving. We hope her small initiative encourages other children to take similar steps in serving the panth with love and purpose.”
